Self Portrait, 2022

Colored pencil on toned paper

18”x24”

I created this portrait only a few months after coming out as queer. In this piece, I wanted to illustrate the growth in confidence I had garnered as a result of allowing myself to lean into my desires and authenticity.

I inserted the media I consumed prior to identifying as queer that urged me on this path of discovery, including the Lesbian Master Docs, receipts to the BackDoor (aka the local gay bar), and a poster of Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
